What Is PRP Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma therapy combines science and natural healing. This innovative treatment uses your body's own regenerative abilities to stimulate natural cell growth, enhance skin and hair quality and promote rejuvenation from within — all without synthetic fillers or chemicals.

Your blood contains platelets, cell fragments that play a crucial role in healing and renewal processes. These platelets contain growth factors that signal your cells to repair and rebuild damaged tissue. PRP therapy concentrates these platelets from your own blood, creating a potent serum that can be strategically applied to areas needing regeneration.

At BelleSante by Kristine Romine, MD, we've refined our PRP protocols over more than a decade, optimizing every aspect of the process to ensure you receive the highest quality treatment and results possible.

The Benefits of PRP Therapy

By harnessing your body’s natural healing processes, our PRP treatments offer patients numerous benefits across several different treatment areas, including:

  • Improved skin tone, texture and firmness
  • Natural hair growth when applied to the scalp
  • Rejuvenation of the delicate tissues beneath the eyes
  • Enhanced healing after other aesthetic treatments
  • Uses your own blood, minimizing the risk of allergic reactions
  • Quick return to normal activities with no downtime

The power of PRP lies in its ability to trigger your body's own regenerative effects, rather than simply masking concerns temporarily. Dr. Romine has refined her techniques to optimize every aspect of the treatment process, from collection and processing to precise application methods that maximize your results. This commitment to excellence is why our patients consistently report satisfaction with both their immediate and long-term outcomes.

Your Treatment Experience at BelleSante

Dr. Romine has been at the forefront of PRP innovation since its earliest applications in Aesthetic medicine. Her meticulous approach ensures that each PRP treatment is optimized for your specific needs. The process begins with a consultation with Kristine Romine, MD, or Sara Romine, DNP, FNP-C, to determine if PRP is right for you. We then proceed with:

  1. Collection: We begin with a simple blood draw, similar to what you might experience during a routine physical. We only need a vial or two, and the collection process is quick and comfortable with our expert techniques.
  2. Processing: Your blood sample is placed in a centrifuge, which spins at precise speeds to separate the components of your blood. This concentrates the platelets, growth factors and stem cells into a golden-colored plasma that contains up to 10 times the normal amount of regenerative elements.
  3. Application: Depending on your treatment goals, your PRP serum may be injected into specific areas using microneedling techniques, applied topically following another aesthetic treatment or delivered into the scalp to stimulate hair growth.

Total treatment session time is about an hour, including the preparation of your PRP and blood draw. Afterward, you’ll be able to return home and resume all normal activities with little to no downtime, depending on your treatment plan. Kristine Romine, MD, and Sara Romine, DNP, FNP-C, will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to help you achieve the best results.

Recovery & Results

The effects of PRP therapy unfold gradually as your body responds to its own concentrated healing factors. Most patients experience minimal downtime, making this an ideal treatment for those with busy lifestyles seeking natural enhancement without disrupting their normal routine.

Immediately following your PRP treatment, you may notice mild redness or swelling in the treated area. These effects typically subside within 24-48 hours, though individual experiences vary based on the concerns being addressed and your unique biology. Our experts will provide you with customized post-treatment guidelines to optimize your comfort and results.

We typically recommend starting with a series of treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. This strategic timing works with your body's natural regenerative cycles to create cumulative effects. Ideally, PRP for hair growth is completed in a series of three monthly “Getting Fit” treatments, then quarterly “Maintenance of Fitness” sessions for sustained hair growth. When combining with other treatments, quarterly sessions at each visit compound your results.
